LUCETTE BRUINSMA
As a teenager, I (Lucette Bruinsma) already spent hours behind the sewing machine.
After studying at the University of Amsterdam, I spent more than 25 years working with great pleasure as a marketing manager and project leader in the corporate world and the events industry — for wonderful clients and brands including Amsterdam RAI, Utrecht Marketing, HISWA and SAIL Amsterdam.
Over time, however, I increasingly missed the creativity and the hands-on aspect of working with my own two hands. I had always wanted to learn how to work with industrial sewing machines and create products myself. So I apprenticed with several sailmakers. It turned out to be a perfect match: I decided to change course and founded Custom Made Covers.
In this work, several of my passions come together: craftsmanship, creativity, styling and entrepreneurship. My focus lies on customised outdoor covers. My many years of experience in the watersports industry come in very handy when repairing spray hoods and boat covers. I live just outside Amsterdam in the idyllic village of Durgerdam, where I also have my workshop at home.
